Heartburn and acid reflux: symptoms and causes

Disorders of the gastroesophageal tract (heartburn, pain and a sense of heaviness) are very common and often underestimated.

These disorders, caused by gastroesophageal reflux, gastritis, or digestive difficulties, manifest when the mucosae of the esophagus and the stomach are attacked by the acid in digestive fluids.

To treat these disorders, we must re-establish the balance between the acid secretions needed for the stomach to function correctly and the protection afforded by the mucus which lines the mucosa.
